Its goal is to provide universal education to the students, so they could continue in their studies at university, tertiary professional schools or could start their professional career immediately after their final exams.
GVH provides education in four and eight-year curriculum: four-year general secondary school (after the ninth grade of elementary school) and eight-year general secondary school (after the fifth grade of elementary school).
Except education it also offers a wide range of sport and cultural activities to its students.
“Státní reálné gymnasium Hořovice” (the former name of GVH) was opened in the school year of 1948/49, starting in the place of what used to be a coeducational state teachers’ institute. In 1953 the grammar school was transformed by the Act of education into the 11- and later to 12-year secondary school. In 1963, the school was transformed into a secondary grammar school and in the school year of 1969/70 it became the “gymnasium” again. Since the school year of 1990/91 there have been two forms of studies at the school. The school is located in the former state teacher institute building in Hořovice, Jiráskova 617, which was built between the years 1928-30. In the school building, which is a property of the town of Hořovice, there is also an elementary school.
Since 15 June 2001 the secondary school has been known under the official name of „Gymnázium Václava Hraběte“ which was granted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
The Central-Bohemian region became the institutor of this school on 1 July.
In June 2008 the secondary school was celebrating the 60th anniversary of its foundation. To commemorate this event, an anniversary report was published and a meeting of graduates was arranged together with a ball. You can buy our annual report which is published as a brochure every year.
